Durham County Government has announced the closure of most of its offices on April 18, 2025, in observance of the Good Friday holiday. All services will resume their standard operations from Monday, April 21.
The General Services Department will close its solid waste and recycling convenience sites on Good Friday. Residents with valid waste decals can return for disposal services starting Saturday, April 19. The roadside recycling collection will maintain its usual schedule during this period.
All Durham County Library branches will be closed on April 18 and 19, resuming operations on April 21. Information about library operations can be found at DurhamCountyLibrary.org.
The Durham County Department of Public Health will be closed in alignment with the county's holiday schedule and will reopen on April 21. Public health emergencies during the closure can be directed to emergency services by calling 911.
Similarly, the Durham County Department of Social Services will not operate on April 18. During the closure, reports of child or adult abuse and neglect can be made via designated phone numbers.
The Durham County Sheriff's Administration and Records Division will close in observance of Good Friday, reopening on April 21. Their Patrol Division will continue to operate around the clock for emergencies.
Finally, the Durham County Cooperative Extension will also close on April 18, resuming normal operations the following Monday. Access to soil sample box drop-off and pick-up will still be available at 721 Foster St.
