Duke Health has officially completed the acquisition of Lake Norman Regional Medical Center and its associated businesses in Mooresville, North Carolina. The transaction, valued at $284 million, was finalized on April 1. The facility will now operate under the name Duke Health Lake Norman Hospital.

Craig Albanese, CEO of Duke University Health System, expressed optimism about the acquisition, stating, “This is an exciting day for Duke Health and the Lake Norman team. We have a bright future ahead and look forward to bringing the excellence and innovation of Duke Health to enhance the care offered at Duke Health Lake Norman Hospital and clinics.”

In the acquisition deal, employees and medical providers were offered positions with Duke Health, ensuring a seamless transition. Interim leadership has been put in place as the search for a new president of the hospital commences. The integration is aimed at maintaining patients' access to familiar providers and services.

Randy Marion, Chair of the Lake Norman Regional Medical Center Board of Trustees, shared his enthusiasm, noting, “We are so excited to be turning the page on the care provided at Lake Norman. The Mooresville community and Iredell County will greatly benefit from Duke Health’s vision for the future and commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care.”

A notable aspect of the acquisition is the integration of the hospital's electronic medical records into Duke's system, which is expected to take several months. This transition will grant patients access to the comprehensive range of Duke Health's specialty care.

Duke Health, known for leading academic health in North Carolina, is committed to enhancing healthcare by advancing clinical care, supporting innovative discoveries, educating future healthcare providers, and fostering community partnerships. The newly named Duke Health Lake Norman Hospital includes emergency care, labor and delivery, cardiology, surgery, orthopedic services, and an outpatient imaging center. Duke Health aims to bolster these services, maintaining high standards of local care.

Albanese reiterated the importance of Duke's leadership in healthcare, saying, “Duke Health leadership brings decades of experience in every aspect of health care. From clinical quality and safety to operational excellence and strategic planning – we have a legacy of delivering the best care to the communities we serve. We look forward to building a new foundation of excellence in Lake Norman.”
