Durham County Government plans to celebrate National County Government Month (NCGM) throughout April to emphasize the county's efforts in building healthy and vibrant communities. The observance will focus on highlighting county innovations, resources, and services available to residents.
During NCGM 2025, county leaders will spotlight various initiatives promoting civic engagement and increasing public awareness of government roles. Events planned for the month include tours, lunch sessions, and a volunteer week. April 17 will mark 1881 Day, commemorating the founding date of Durham County Government. Public invitations extend to explore local government buildings and partake in programs offered online.
A key event in this month-long celebration will be the State of the County Address, delivered by Chair Nida Allam, scheduled for April 28 during the Board of County Commissioners Regular Session. The meeting can be accessed via the Durham Television Network, county website, or YouTube.
"Durham County Government is proud to serve you, the residents of Durham County," states County Manager Claudia Hager. “But we don’t just work here. We live here. You see us everywhere, from official offices downtown to everyday locations like the grocery store or local parks.”
Celebrations will follow guidelines by the National Association of Counties, which since 1991 has prompted counties to engage in raising public awareness each April. The county encourages public interaction through social media platforms such as Facebook, Bluesky, Instagram, and Nextdoor. Information concerning the celebration can be obtained from the Durham County Public Information Office.
For further details about scheduled events and services, residents are encouraged to visit dconc.gov or follow DCo's social media for timely updates.
"Happy National County Government Month" resonate as Durham County continues to connect and inspire its community.
