This evening, shortly before 6:30 p.m., the Durham County Sheriff's Office was alerted to a situation involving gunfire between occupants of two vehicles along the 8200 block of Ball Rd. According to authorities, a deputy patrolling north on Roxboro St saw the vehicles involved heading southbound as he approached the reported scene.

In an attempt to execute a traffic stop, the vehicles accelerated away, prompting the deputy to pursue. During the search, the deputy discovered one of the vehicles had been involved in a crash near Roxboro St and Latta Rd. The incident resulted in multiple fatalities and is currently under investigation. The whereabouts of the second vehicle remain unknown.
