On Monday, April 21, 2025, the Durham County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of multiple shots fired in the area of the 8200 block of Ball Rd. The report included descriptions of two vehicles and their direction. A deputy located two vehicles matching the description in the parking lot of a convenience store approximately seven minutes later. Upon the deputy's arrival, both vehicles left the parking lot at a high rate of speed. The deputy pursued the Black Infiniti, temporarily losing visual contact, but later discovered it involved in an accident with two other vehicles.

The accident is being investigated by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, with a parallel investigation conducted by the Durham County Sheriff’s Office. The second vehicle, identified as a white Audi, remains at large. Authorities have stated that the case is ongoing, and any individuals with information are encouraged to contact the Durham County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division at 919-560-0880.

Previously, on Sunday, April 20, 2025, the situation began just before 6:30 p.m. when officials received a call about the vehicles discharging firearms. A deputy on patrol spotted the vehicles on Roxboro St and subsequently attempted a traffic stop, leading to a chase. The crash occurred near Roxboro St and Latta Rd, resulting in multiple fatalities. The search for the second vehicle continues.
