City of Raleigh issued the following announcement on Nov. 10.
Help make the holidays brighter for local families! The Raleigh Fire Department is collecting toys for the annual Marine Corps Toys for Tots program. You can donate new, unwrapped toys at any RFD fire station until Dec. 11.
The program’s mission is to distribute toys to less fortunate children at Christmas. Through the gift of a new toy, the Marine Corps, along with its partners, helps bring the joy of Christmas and send a message of hope to America's less fortunate children.
You can donate toys for children who range in age from babies to teenagers. The need for older children is especially great.
The Raleigh Fire Department began helping with the program in 2019 and last year, it donated more than 300 gifts, says Lieutenant Kamilah Webb.
“The sooner we can get the toys in, the faster and easier it is to sort and distribute them to children across Wake, Durham, Johnston, Granville, Vance and Franklin counties,” she explains.
Members of local Marine Corps League Detachments (Tar Heel Detachment 733, RDU Detachment 1482 and Air, Land NC 1257 Detachment) are combining efforts with the local Marine Corps League Auxiliary Tar Heel Unit 733 on the program locally. Besides fire stations, several local businesses serve as collection sites.
