Duke Health, WakeMed, and Lifepoint Health have officially opened Peak Rehabilitation Hospital in Apex, North Carolina. This new 52-bed facility is a joint venture announced in 2021 by Duke Health, WakeMed, and Lifepoint Rehabilitation, a division of Lifepoint Health.
Craig Albanese, M.D., CEO of Duke University Health System, expressed pride in the collaboration: “The health challenges of our communities are complex, and we are proud to partner with WakeMed and Lifepoint Health to provide patients and their families access to innovative, cost-effective and high-quality inpatient rehab care.”
Both Duke Health and WakeMed offer comprehensive rehabilitation programs accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), aiding both children and adults in their recovery journeys.

This joint venture with Duke Health and Lifepoint represents our commitment to meeting the growing needs of our community while carrying out our mission to strengthen the health of our community.”
Lifepoint Health has been collaborating with Duke Health since 2011 through their joint venture known as Duke Lifepoint Healthcare. This partnership includes nine acute care hospitals across North Carolina.
David Dill, Chairman and CEO of Lifepoint Health remarked on this expansion: “Through 14 years of partnership... I am proud to see the expansion of our partnership... Today is an exciting day for our team at Lifepoint Rehabilitation.”
The new hospital covers over 60,000 square feet with private rooms, therapy gyms, therapeutic courtyards featuring gardens and walking paths. It also includes facilities designed for dialysis patients along with a transitional living apartment for patient preparation before returning home.
Rob Warfuel, CEO of Peak Rehabilitation Hospital commented on the facility's capabilities: “Today is a remarkable day for patients in and beyond Wake County... we have built an industry-leading clinical team here in Apex.”
Lifepoint Rehabilitation will oversee daily operations at Peak Rehabilitation Hospital. The hospital will provide acute rehabilitation care for conditions such as stroke or traumatic brain injury among others.
