In the near future, 4,000 new trees will line the streets of Durham thanks to a multimillion dollar federal grant award from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).
Durham City Council member Monique Holsey-Hyman will not be facing charges after a State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) probe found no evidence to support allegations of extortion and campaign finance violations. The accusations were made in March when a property developer claimed that Holsey-Hyman had sought campaign funding in exchange for a favorable vote on annexation and rezoning applications. However, text messages between the council member and the developer were searched, and no incriminating evidence was found.
The City of Durham’s top priority during the solid waste collectors’ protest, which started on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, was to ensure that solid waste collections, specifically garbage, continued for the more than 88,000 households in our city.
A student at Northern High School in Durham, NC, was involved in a car accident on Friday afternoon, sustaining minor injuries. The incident occurred at approximately 3:30 p.m., and fortunately, there were no casualties.
