WakeMed Soccer Park | North Carolina Courage
The North Carolina Courage experienced a bittersweet evening as they set a new home opener attendance record with 8,158 spectators at First Horizon Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park. Despite the impressive turnout, the team fell to Seattle Reign with a score of 2-1.
This attendance figure is notable as it ranks sixth all-time in club history and marks the highest attendance for a match before September. The Courage displayed resilience after falling behind 2-0 by creating several late chances. Aline Gomes managed to reduce the deficit in the 59th minute, following determined play from Denise O’Sullivan.
Seattle initially took the lead in the 35th minute when Jess Fishlock converted a cross from Maddie Mercado. Jordyn Bugg extended Seattle's advantage in the 56th minute with a long-range effort.
After the match, Jessica McDonald was inducted into the Courage’s Ring of Honor alongside Sam Mewis, who was inducted in 2024.
The game also marked Sean Nahas’ 100th match as head coach of NC Courage across all competitions. Looking ahead, the Courage will travel west to face Portland Thorns on March 29 at 10 p.m. ET, with coverage available on ION.
