Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (Blue Cross NC) has announced the establishment of CuraCor Solutions, a not-for-profit parent holding company. This new structure is intended to enhance the company's ability to improve health outcomes for North Carolinians by enabling faster and more effective implementation of health programs and technologies.

CuraCor will include Blue Cross NC as one of its subsidiaries, alongside other fully owned companies. The goal is to foster partnerships and investments that drive better, more affordable care for members across the state. According to Dr. Tunde Sotunde, President and CEO of both Blue Cross NC and CuraCor, "Our health care system is too expensive, too confusing and access remains a challenge across the nation. Consumers insist on a better experience, and we must evolve to meet the demands of today’s health care environment."

Members of Blue Cross NC will not see changes in their coverage or services due to this restructuring. Insurance cards, provider networks, Medicaid, and Medicare offerings will remain unchanged.

The initiative comes as part of an effort to address critical healthcare challenges in North Carolina such as primary care shortages and access issues in rural areas. By modernizing its structure into a diversified family of companies, Blue Cross NC aims to allocate more resources toward these issues while maintaining competitiveness.

Recent efforts under existing partnerships have already shown results in improving healthcare access through acquisitions like FastMed locations across North Carolina. These acquisitions have expanded primary care offerings and improved staffing levels at clinics.

Dr. Sotunde expressed optimism about these developments: “Blue Cross NC is now better positioned to meet consumers’ evolving health care needs and we will not stop until health care is better for all.”
