At Hillside High School’s recent centennial celebration, officials unveiled a timeline featuring many of the noteworthy accomplishments and graduates.
"The HHS Centennial Timeline captures some of the most salient events, several notable alumni, and facts about Hillside High School's story,” Dr. William Logan, Hillside High's principal, said in a WTVD report.
Of the more than 300 historically Black high schools that once operated in the state before desegregation, only a handful remain today, with Hillside being the oldest.
The timeline depicts key events and facts about the Durham school. It also recognizes several notable alumni.
"It was a collaborative effort with alumni ... for our students,” Logan said of the display.
Alumni, supporters, employees and friends funded the timeline with their donations.
“This is just one attempt to document the history and impact this institution has had on its former and current students, the Durham community, the state of North Carolina, and our country,” Logan said.
