The North Carolina Courage have announced the signing of forward Hannah Betfort to a two-year contract, extending through the 2026 NWSL season, with an option for 2027. The announcement was made by the club on Friday. Betfort, originally from Charleston, South Carolina and a Wake Forest University alumna, played for the Utah Royals in 2024.
Betfort began her professional career when she was drafted 37th overall by the Portland Thorns in the 2021 NWSL Draft. She spent three seasons with the Thorns before being traded to Utah ahead of the 2024 NWSL Expansion Draft.
While at Wake Forest, Betfort played both as a forward and defender but has focused on attacking roles in the NWSL. In regular season play, she has accumulated five goals and created 18 chances over 2,292 minutes. Her performance in 2024 was particularly notable with two goals, 14 chances created, and an impressive passing accuracy of 81% across 1,674 minutes.
Expressing her enthusiasm about joining North Carolina Courage, Betfort stated: “I am so excited to finally return home to the Carolinas for the opportunity to wear this crest and play for this club. Let’s get to work!”
Courage Head Coach Sean Nahas commented on Betfort's signing: “Signing Hannah is great for us. She adds a different dynamic to our front line that maybe we haven’t had. She gives us flexibility and can threaten back lines with her movements, provide energy in our press, and give opposition something different to think about. I know how excited she is to be here, and we share that sentiment equally. We look forward to welcoming Hannah here soon.”
During her time at Wake Forest, Betfort served as a two-time team captain and received All-ACC Third Team honors in 2020. She began her college career as a walk-on but quickly made an impact with five goals and one assist in her freshman year before transitioning to defense as a sophomore.
Betfort is set to join her new team at their preseason training camp next week in Cary, North Carolina.
