City of Durham issued the following announcement on Jan. 20.

- We’re proud to announce more recognition for our sustainability accomplishments. Our organization and Durham County government have jointly achieved Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification.
- We’ll soon begin reimbursing construction permit fees for homes built by the housing and development community at no cost for veterans who become 100% disabled in the line of duty. Find out how the program works and why it was needed.
- The development of a new Parks and Recreation Comprehensive Park System Plan will soon be getting under way. The plan will include assessing what areas of Durham are currently underserved that should be prioritized.
- Two new Durham Community Land Trustees, Inc. programs that will be supported by American Rescue Plan Act funds will help to provide more quality affordable housing and preserve home ownership for low-income individuals and families.
- We now know what the City Council’s priorities are for the future of the former Police Headquarters at 505 West Chapel Hill Street. Those include permanently affordable housing and preserving the building currently on the site.
