Durham small businesses that need financial support because of COVID-19 can apply for a new local grant.
The Durham City Council earmarked $240,000 of CARES Act funding for the newly-created Durham CARES Small Business Grant Program, the city said in a November release.
"Improving local small businesses' access to capital is an important component of the City's strategy in response to COVID-19," Office of Economic and Workforce Development Director Andre Pettigrew said in the release.
There are several requirements to qualify for a $10,000 grant including, being based in Durham as of Nov. 12, 2019, impacted by COVID-19, not in a bankruptcy process, less than 50 full-time employees as of Nov. 15 and have revenues of less than $2 million, the release said.
Since COVID-19, "Over $3 million in grants and loans have been made available to local Durham small businesses," Pettigrew said in the release. "The new Durham CARES Small Business Grant Program will now provide additional financial help to our local small businesses that continue to adapt their business operations in response to COVID-19."
