North Carolina Republican state treasurer Dale Folwell has launched his re-election campaign with a vow to “watch the pennies and the paper clips as keeper of the public purse.”

Folwell recently took to Facebook to make his latest run official, asking supporters to go his website and make contributions.

Folwell, who has served as treasurer since 2017, is a former member of the North Carolina House of Representatives, serving the 74th District for eight years, ending in 2013. During that time, he also served as Speaker Pro Tempore. Over that time, he also served on the House’s Appropriations Committee and Subcommittee on General Government.

A certified public accountant and financial adviser by trade, Folwell ran for North Carolina lieutenant governor in 2012, finishing in third place.

The primary is March, with the general election set for November.
