The North Carolina Courage have announced a trade with the Kansas City Current, involving forward Haley Hopkins. In exchange for Hopkins, the Courage will receive $50,000 in intra-league transfer funds.
Haley Hopkins was drafted by the Courage as the 11th overall pick in the 2023 NWSL Draft from the University of Virginia. During her tenure with the team, she made 36 regular season appearances, scoring four goals and providing two assists over 1,896 minutes of play. Additionally, she contributed three goals and three assists in cup competitions. Her efforts helped the Courage win the 2023 NWSL Challenge Cup and reach the semifinals of the 2024 NWSLxLiga MX Femenil Summer Cup.
Courage Head Coach Sean Nahas expressed gratitude for Hopkins' contributions to the team: “We cannot thank Haley enough for her time, energy and commitment to her teammates, staff, and club. In her two years here, she helped lay the foundation for the forward direction we are going. We always talk about leaving a mark, and Haley did just that. We wish her all the best and much success on this new journey in Kansas City.”
Following this transaction, North Carolina Courage have 34 players in their preseason camp with 28 under contract and 27 active.
