More than 100 teenagers from North Carolina will convene at the Museum of Life and Science in Durham for the fourth North Carolina Youth Climate Summit on November 10-11. The event will feature speeches from Durham Mayor Leonardo Williams, North Carolina Assistant Secretary of Clean Energy Economic Development Jennifer Mundt, and Museum President and CEO Carrie Heinonen.

Carly Apple, Vice President for Education & Engagement, remarked on the importance of youth involvement in climate action: “Our world is being reshaped by the effects of climate change,” she said. “Global reports highlight the urgent need for climate action, and this generation is rising to the challenge with incredible passion and purpose. It’s natural to feel overwhelmed, but taking action fuels hope. I’m inspired by the brilliant young minds leading the way at the Youth Climate Summit—they are driving change, and the future feels brighter because of them.”

Participants will form teams from various high school environmental clubs, youth leadership groups, scout organizations, and other service-oriented clubs. The summit offers opportunities for students to learn, network, and develop their own climate action plans.

The event is organized by a Teen Advisory Board that meets throughout the year at the Museum to plan every aspect of the summit. This year's summit spans two days. On Sunday, November 10, participants will engage in hands-on service activities and explore exhibits on climate and sustainability across the Museum's 86-acre campus.

Monday's agenda includes workshops providing tools for climate action, motivational speakers, and an Eco-Fair connecting attendees with local projects. The day concludes with teams creating actionable plans to implement within their schools or communities.

The Museum values youth leadership in fostering climate resilience alongside schools, communities, and organizations as essential partners in a sustainable future.

Event details are as follows:

- Sunday, November 10: 10 am – 1 pm

- Monday, November 11: 8:30 am – 4:30 pm

Location: 433 West Murray Avenue, Durham, NC
