City of Durham Announces Service Changes for Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Most City of Durham offices, including City Hall and all non-emergency City facilities and operations, will be closed to the public on Monday, January 15, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Curbside Solid Waste Collections

  • The Solid Waste Management Department will be closed on Monday, January 15.
  • All collection services will be delayed by one business day.
  • The Waste Disposal and Recycling Center, Yard Waste Facility, and the Household Hazardous Waste Center will be closed on Monday, January 15.
  • To sign up for collection-day alerts and reminders for holiday service changes, please visit the department’s webpage or download their free Durham Rollout smartphone app available in the Apple and Google Play stores.
City Council Meeting

  • The City Council regular business meeting is re-scheduled for Tuesday, January 16, beginning at 7 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall.
  • This meeting will be livestreamed on the City’s website; on the City's YouTube, Facebook, and X, formerly known as Twitter, pages; and on Roku, Apple TV, and Amazon Fire TV through the free Boxcast app.
  • This meeting will also be televised live on Durham Television Network (Frontier channel 70 and AT&T U-verse channel 99).

Parks and Recreation

  • Durham Parks and Recreation (DPR) administrative office and all facilities will be closed on Monday, January 15.
  • The department will host MLK Event: Remembering the Legacy through the Arts on Saturday, January 13, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at W.D. Hill Recreation Center, 1308 Fayetteville St. This free public event will commemorate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Downtown Parking

  • The Park Durham Customer Service Center will be closed on Monday, January 15.
  • On City-designated holidays, downtown parking is free in on-street parking spaces, in some City-owned parking garages, and in City-owned surface parking lots.
  • To check the Special Event Parking Schedule, where the $7-per-vehicle rate goes into effect in the Durham Centre, 90 minutes before scheduled events, visit the Special Event Parking Calendar.
GoDurham and GoDurham ACCESS

  • Sunday-level service is available on GoDurham and GoDurham ACCESS routes.
  • For the most up-to-date information about GoDurham services, including detours and holiday reminders, call 919-485-RIDE (7433), download MyStop Mobile, or follow on X (formerly known as Twitter).
Durham One Call

  • Durham One Call will be closed on Monday, January 15. Residents may submit service requests in the following ways, and staff will forward requests for City services to the appropriate department on the next business day:
    • Make an online service request.
    • Use the free Durham One Call smartphone app available in the Apple and Google Play stores.
    • Send a text to 919-813-6315.
    • Leave a message at 919-560-1200.
Water and Sewer Emergencies

  • Water main break and sewer overflow calls for service placed after-hours, on weekends, or on City-recognized holidays should be directed to the Water Management Department’s after-hours emergency number at 919-560-4344, which will dispatch on-call crews.
