CITY OF DURHAM PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT: DPR Halloween Events

City of Durham Parks and Recreation Department issued the following announcement on Oct. 17.

Ghostly Greetings from Durham Parks and Recreation! October is full of spook-tacular events for all ages to enjoy! From campfire stories and hayrides to treats and costume contests, you'll be in for an evening of laughs and scares! Here's some free upcoming activities and programs you won't want to miss...

Upcoming 2022 Events

Fright Night (All Ages)

Friday, October 14

5 p.m. - 8 p.m.

Edison Johnson Recreation Center, 500 W Murray Avenue

Calling all of Durham's ghosts and ghouls! This free event will feature carnival games, a puppet show, a costume parade, a fun house, and a family-friendly movie. There will even be a haunted trail for ages 13 and up. Dressing up isn’t just for the little ones. Everyone is encouraged to get in the spirit and wear your favorite costume. Registration is not required, and you’re welcome to come for the entire time or just drop-in. Parking will be available at the recreation center and the Museum of Life and Science overflow parking lot.

Pumpkin Splash (All Ages)

Saturday, October 15

3 p.m. - 5 p.m.

Edison Johnson Aquatic Center, 500 W Murray Avenue

Select your favorite pumpkin from one of many FLOATING in the pool, dry it off on the pool deck and use paints, stickers, and all kinds of fun craft supplies to decorate it. All swim levels are welcome and life vests will be provided. An adult will need to enter the water with children 9 years of age and younger. Preregistration is required.

Halloween Flashlight Scavenger Hunt (All Ages)

Friday, October 28

7 p.m. - 8 p.m., 7:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m., 8 p.m. - 9 p.m.

Environmental Education Pavilion at West Point on the Eno, 5253 N Roxboro Street

Looking for a fun Halloween activity for the whole family? This activity is just for you! Bring your family or team of friends and come race through West Point on the Eno after dark. You will search for hidden reflective Halloween and nature themed “targets” around the park using flashlights. Youth under 16 must be accompanied by a registered adult. Preregistration is required for all participants.

Haunted Clown Trail (18 and older)

Friday, October 28

10 p.m. - 11 p.m., 10:30 p.m. - 11:30 p.m., 11 p.m. - Midnight

Environmental Education Pavilion at West Point on the Eno, 5253 N Roxboro Street

Years ago on a dark and stormy night a clown car crashed into the Eno river the car was recovered but the occupants were never found. Legend has it that once a year clowns can be seen along the trails of West Point on the Eno. Join us for a creepy take on our popular flashlight scavenger hunt. Bring and flashlight and search for clowns along the trail but watch out for Buttons he’s a little grumpy. Adults only, preregistration is required for all participants.

Barktoberfest (All ages and canines)

Saturday, October 29

3:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.

Durham Central Park, 501 Foster Street

Barktoberfest is a celebration for our canine residents and their families. Join us for an afternoon of fun which will include a costume contest, games, a beer garden, pet-friendly organizations and vendors, food vendors, and more!

Vamp It Up! (2-5 years old)

Monday, October 31

11 a.m. - Noon

Edison Johnson Recreation Center, 500 W Murray Avenue

Calling all friendly vampires, ghosts, and goblins. You are invited to a costume party! Dress in your Halloween best and enjoy some spectacular games, crafts, and fun. Preregistration required. Limited spots available.

HallowEno (All Ages)

Monday, October 31

5;30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

West Point on the Eno, 5101 N Roxboro Street

Join us for our 34th annual Halloween event, an evening full of fun for the whole family! Designed particularly for children ages 12 and younger, this special event features campfire stories and songs, hayrides, treats, crafts, games, and more. No need to register, just come out, rain or shine!
