City of Durham issued the following announcement on Sept. 5.
Great reminder from Durham Saves Water about the annual Stormwater Utility Fee on your water utility bills, and how these funds support the efforts of City of Durham, NC Government - Stormwater Services in keeping our waterways clean and healthy.
This is the time of year when the annual Stormwater Utility Fee appears on water utility bills (see utility bill image). To switch from an annual fee to a pro-rated monthly fee contact Durham One Call at 919-560-1200.
What does this fee do? Well, here are just a few things:
Keeping roads clean, street and sidewalk sweeping, litter control, and dead animal removal.
Maintaining, cleaning, and repairing storm drains and ditch maintenance within publicly owned right-of-way.
Mitigating flooding
Running the Household Hazardous Waste Collection program
Stream monitoring and running an illicit discharge identification and elimination program.
Educating residents about preventing stormwater pollution.
Complying with federal and state requirements related to stormwater and water quality.
