CITY OF DURHAM: Seeks Nonprofits to Submit Cultural Festival Request for Proposals

City of Durham issued the following announcement on July 19.

August 8 Deadline for Submittals

If your organization is interested hosting a special event or festival in the Bull City, the City of Durham wants to hear from you.

The City’s Cultural and Public Art Program, which administers the Festivals and Special Events Request for Proposals (RFP) application process, is now seeking creative and innovative proposals from qualified entities in Durham to support new or existing arts and cultural festivals and/or special events.

The Durham Cultural Advisory Board worked in partnership with City staff to develop this year’s goals and review criteria for the application process. This year’s RFP encourages festival and special event organizers to apply for in-person and/or virtual festivals and special events. Successful respondents must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Not-for-profit entity or partner with a not-for-profit fiscal entity.
  • Suitable experience in festival planning or similar projects.
  • Sufficient insurance against any potential liabilities provided by the contracted not-for-profit entity.
  • Adequate financial capacity.
  • Produce festival(s) and/or special events between July 1, 2022 to December 31, 2023.
The RFP document, review criteria, online portal information, and a list of required application documents can now be found on the City’s website. Completed packets will be accepted until 3 p.m. on Monday, August 8, 2022. Application packets must be submitted using the online portal Submittable; emailed packets will not be accepted.

To assist interested nonprofits with completing their applications, two workshops will be hosted virtually on Thursday, July 14 from 9 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. on Zoom and Wednesday, July 27 from 6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. on Zoom. Additional virtual drop-in office hours for questions will be held on Tuesday, August 2 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Zoom. The deadline for submitting written questions regarding the RFP process is Monday, August 1.

For technical questions on the RFP and submission process, interested nonprofits may also email Cultural and Public Art Program Manager Rebecca Brown with the Arts, Culture, and Sustainable Communities Division of City’s General Services Department.
