Durham Police Department issued the following announcement on Jan. 21.

Investigators from the Durham Police Department’s Traffic and Crash Team (TACT) are trying to locate Devon Jarandz Edwards and Teresa Christy Hooker who have been charged in connection with a January 9 hit-and-run crash on South Briggs Avenue that left a pregnant woman seriously injured. Edwards and Hooker have not been arrested at this time.

Edwards, 26, is wanted on the following charges: felony hit-and-run resulting in serious injury, reckless driving to endanger, speeding (62 mph in a 25 mph zone), driving while license revoked, failure to register motor vehicle, failure to reduce speed and hit-and-run involving property damage (utility poles on Driver Street). Hooker, 33, is wanted on charges of felony accessory after the fact and filing a false police report.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Edwards and/or Hooker is asked to call 911 or CrimeStoppers at (919) 683-1200. CrimeStoppers pays cash rewards for information leading to arrests in felony cases and callers never have to identify themselves.

The crash happened around 7:25 p.m. on January 9 in the 200 block of South Briggs Avenue. An 18-year-old pregnant female was driving north on South Briggs Avenue in a 2013 Nissan Sentra when she was struck head-on by a 2002 Cadillac Escalade that was traveling south on South Briggs Avenue at a high rate of speed. A Nissan Maxima and a Chrysler 200 were parked on South Briggs Avenue and were also damaged.

The driver of the Cadillac Escalade fled the scene with the vehicle. After fleeing the scene, the Cadillac Escalade struck and broke two power poles in 300 block of South Driver Street. The driver abandoned the Cadillac Escalade a short distance away in the 2000 block of East Peabody Street, where it was located by patrol officers a short time later. Speed is believed to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.

The 18-year-old driver suffered serious injuries in the crash.
