Durham Fire Department issued the following announcement on Oct. 22.
Just before 9:15, the Durham Fire Department was dispatched and responded with 36 personnel to a structure fire in the 2600 block of East Weaver St. On arrival, firefighters reported a 2 story residential structure with heavy smoke showing from the eaves. The fire was under control in approximately 10 minutes but caused extensive fire and smoke damage throughout the home. There were no injuries and one adult male was displaced. The fire started in the kitchen and was ruled accidental in nature. The American Red Cross was not needed and the male will be staying with family in the area.
Stay in the kitchen when you are frying, grilling, or broiling food. If you must leave the kitchen, even for a short time, turn off the stove.
