DURHAM FIRE DEPARTMENT: Dispatched To A Reported House Fire In 400 block of Lakeland Street

Durham Fire Department issued the following announcement on Oct. 15. 

On October 14, 2021 at approximately 7:30 AM, the Durham Fire Department was dispatched to a reported house fire in the 400 block of Lakeland Street. The first arriving fire engine found a 1 story duplex with smoke coming from the front door of one side of the duplex. The department responded with 32 firefighters and the fire was under control in about 10 minutes. The one side of the duplex sustained moderate fire, smoke, and water damage. The side the fire started in was occupied at the time of the fire by 1 adult, 5 children and 2 dogs. All were able to escape with the exception of 1 dog that was deceased at the scene. The other side of the duplex was occupied only by 2 dogs at the time, and they were able to escape uninjured. The side of the duplex that had the fire is unable to be lived in at the time and 2 adults and 5 children have been displaced, the other side is livable and no residents were displaced out of that one. 

The residents that were displaced are being assisted by The American Red Cross. Durham County EMS assisted the department with the incident.
