COUNTY OF DURHAM: Government Named One of the Healthiest Employers of the Triangle

Awardstar

County of Durham issued the following announcement on Oct. 8.

Durham County Government has been recognized in the 2021 Healthiest Employers of the Triangle, an awards program created to honor people-first organizations that prioritize the well-being of their employee population. These companies were recognized because of their commitment to workplace wellness and their exceptional health and benefits offerings.

“I am most proud of how both diverse and inclusive our wellness program is in that it offers various wellness related opportunities, and it also functions as a support system for employees regardless of what stage they are in when they make the choice to live healthier,” said Claudia Hager, Interim County Manager.

COVID-19 presented a host of challenges for our employees as we strived to meet the needs of our workforce while still providing services to our community at large (including the response of Durham County Public Health, Durham County Social Services, and beyond). Uniquely, Durham County faced the onset of a global pandemic while simultaneously navigating a malware attack that affected our organization’s technology infrastructure from the highest to the lowest levels of operation.

“Receiving a ranking in the top five while instantaneously dealing with the global pandemic and a malware attack indicates that not only are our employees resilient but we’re moving in the right direction as an organization and look forward to moving up in the rankings of the Healthiest Employers of the Triangle,” said Durham County Human Resources Manager Deidre Gonzales.

Award applicants were evaluated across six key categories: Culture and Leadership, Foundational Components, Strategic Planning, Communication and Marketing, Programming and Interventions, and Reporting and Analytics. Completed assessments were ranked with the proprietary Healthiest Employers® Index, a 1-100 rubric for wellness programming. The survey is scored and powered by Springbuk, a health intelligence platform that simplifies data-driven decision-making with an intuitive user experience, predictive modeling, and curated action steps.

Special recognition is given to Durham County’s Public Health and Human Resources Departments for their continual efforts in employee wellness. To see the 2021 rankings, please click here.
