CITY OF DURHAM: Newman Street Water Main Installation Project Begins

Waterdisconnect

City of Durham issued the following announcement on Oct. 2.

Durham’s Department of Water Management announced today that construction activities for the Newman Street Water Main Installation project are slated to begin Monday, October 11, 2021. The project will install 730 linear feet of new water main along Newman Street and Walker Street for parcels along Newman Street that do not currently have service. The project also prepares for future connections across Fayetteville Street on Walker Street and Henderson Street. This project is anticipated to cost $350,000 and take approximately 90 days to fully complete. Substantial completion on the project is anticipated in January 2022.

Construction will not occur on private property, but there will be pedestrian, traffic and noise impacts. The City’s contractor is required to keep access open to residences and businesses at all time. On-street parking and pedestrian access will be obstructed along Newman Street and Walker Street due to construction activities or traffic detours.

Alternative on-street parking options will be available, with areas of free two-hour and four-hour parking, along with areas for paid two-hour parking.

A meeting for residents and businesses affected by this project was held on June 9, 2021; those stakeholders have also received email updates. For project updates and more information, visit the project webpage.
