DURHAM FIRE DEPARTMENT: Assigned To Assist Local Team From Cherokee In Searching For People in Need of Assistance

Firehat

Durham Fire Department issued the following announcement on Aug. 21.

Yesterday, the Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) Task Force 8 from the Durham Fire Department was assigned to assist a local team from Cherokee in searching for people in need of assistance along a section of the Pigeon River in Waynesville, NC. Fortunately they did not encounter any injured people and suffered no injuries themselves. They did have to make some boat repairs due to damage from a significant amount of debris in the river from local flooding. Today they conducted a wide area search and assisted with Damage assessment.  The flag pictured below was recovered from a debris pile earlier today. Pictured with the flag are members of TF8 from Durham and Raleigh, and members of the Cherokee Fire Department. We're proud of our members and all the other North Carolina Task Force Teams that have been deployed to the area.
