COVID-19-related orders that temporarily shuttered the courthouses in Durham and Orange counties came to an end this month when the buildings reopened on June 1 under protective health restrictions.
“We want to assure the public that extensive measures have been taken to provide for their health and safety,” Mark Kleinschmidt, Orange County Clerk of Superior Court, said, ChapelBoro.com reported on June 2.
Part of the new health changes coming to the courthouses will be wearing facemasks and also limiting the number of individuals in a courtroom at one time, ChapelBoro.com reported. The courthouses will have a limited number of face coverings for individuals who come to the buildings without face protection.
In addition to social distancing rules, Orange County Sheriff’s Office will place a limitation on the items that visitors may bring, stating that visitors can only bring into their cell phones, car keys and methods of payment into the courthouse.
