It has been a busy year in the Bull City! One of my favorite things about this time of year is looking back on the calendar and remembering the highlights of what we accomplished as a community.

Several major plans were updated in 2023 to give us a foundation to move forward from in 2024 and years to come. The City’s Strategic Plan was refreshed to give us a renewed focus for the next three years. The new Durham Comprehensive Plan was also adopted in 2023 – after four years of work among the community – to guide important decisions around planning issues for the next 15 to 20 years.

While we are planning ahead, we are also seeing ideas come to life that make real impacts on our community today, including expanding the HEART Program in our Community Safety Department to provide service citywide, seven days a week.

These are major steps toward investing in our community, made possible thanks to our dedicated team and our wonderful residents working with a common goal.

While we all know there is work ahead of us, I want to thank everyone for your commitment to making our city the best it can be.

If you want to get more involved, you can explore how to apply for a local board or apply for a position with the City today!

I want to wish you and your family a safe, happy, and healthy holiday season.

Until next time,Wanda
