County of Durham issued the following announcement on June 16.
The heat is turning up and we are taking protective measures to keep employees safe! Here are some of our work smart tips:
Timing is key: Teams exposed to heat for extended periods are scheduled for earlier hours, advised to complete more strenuous work during the morning, and encouraged to take breaks to cool off throughout the day.
Stay Informed: Employees are advised of the consequences of heat stroke and what to look for when a person experiences heat stress.
Drink up: Many employees working outdoors are supplied with water and hydrating drinks. Staff is encouraged to drink water at work and after hours to stay hydrated.
Be well equipped: Field staff are issued protective gear to decrease sun exposure.
Look out for others: Employees are encouraged to check in with each other often; especially when working alone.
