City of Durham issued the following announcement on June 14.

City Manager Wanda Page has named Robin Patrick Wynn as the new director of the Human Resources Department.

Wynn, who formerly served as the human resources director for the City of Suffolk, Va. since 2020, starts her new role on Tuesday, June 21, 2022.

Wynn has held senior level human resources positions in various industries during her 30-year career, bringing a vast wealth of experience and knowledge to the City. Prior to joining the City of Suffolk, Wynn directed human resources activities for the Virginia Alcohol Beverage and Control Authority and at the Burkes Companies in Atlanta, Ga., where she was the corporate vice president of human resources.

“Robin has a proven track record of helping organizations address an array of complex personnel issues,” Page said. “As the City of Durham faces similar personnel challenges of attracting, recruiting, and retaining employees as other cities and other organizations across the country at this time, I am excited about the experience, knowledge, and creativity that she will bring.”

“Employees are the strength of any workplace, especially those in public service,” Wynn said. “I am thrilled to have been selected to lead human resource activities for the City’s nearly 2,600 employees that comprise the organization. Durham is a dynamic city with so much to offer, and I look forward to working with City employees and residents, and getting to know this great city.”

Wynn earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Human Resources from Saint Leo University. A 25-year member of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), Wynn is a SHRM Senior Certified Professional. She is also an HRCI® Senior Professional in Human Resources. HRCI® is the premier credentialing organization for the human resource profession, setting the standard for human resource rigor, excellence, and expertise.

A member of several other professional organizations, Wynn is also an active member of the International City/County Management Association, which is focused on advancing professional local government through leadership, management, innovation, and ethics.

Wynn is relocating to Durham with her husband, Rodney. She is an avid mystery reader, enjoys board games, and likes spending time on her family farm in Prince George, Va.
