DURHAM POLICE DEPARTMENT: Announce The Passing Of Recently Retired DPD K9 Daro

issued the following announcement on Mar. 17.

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our recently retired DPD K9 Daro. K9 Daro,  who was shot and seriously injured in the line of duty on March 30, 2021, was awarded the Purple Heart by Chief Patrice Andrews on Friday. K9 Daro had recovered from his injuries and returned to work in July, but he was recently diagnosed with cancer. He died with his partner, Cpl. Roger Lafferty, at his side. 

K9 Daro was a seven-year-old Belgian Malinois who served the DPD alongside his partner, Cpl. Lafferty, with bravery and honor since 2016. End of Watch 03/11/2022. Thank you for your service, hero! Rest in peace.
