County of Durham issued the following announcement on Aug. 6.
On July 20, 2021, the Honorable Sharon A. Davis, Durham County Register of Deeds, was sworn in as President of the International Association of Government Officials (iGO). She was sworn into office during the 2021 iGO Annual Conference and Awards Banquet, hosted in New York.
“I am honored to serve as the next President of iGO,” said Davis. “I look forward to leading this organization as we step over obstacles and develop strategies for the future.”
Davis’ term as president of iGO will begin on September 1, 2021 and expire on August 31, 2022. She plans to serve iGO with a platform focused on diversity, inclusion, transparency, and equity as strategies for the future are developed.
Davis previously served as iGO’s First President, Second Vice Presidents, Secretary, and as Delegation Director for the State of North Carolina. Davis will remain on the Board of Directors for one year after her term as the 2021 President of iGO is complete.
Davis is not new to leadership. She currently serves on the local level as First Vice President of the North Carolina Association of Register of Deeds (NCARD) and will assume presidency of NCARD in 2022.
“iGO was founded – and is based on – fostering excellence in public service through education, innovation, and networking. Register of Deeds Sharon Davis has been an unparalleled champion in the areas of local government innovation and inclusivity. Under her leadership, the Durham County Register of Deeds office has implemented advanced technology options to increase public access and protection of vital records, initiated new options for our citizens to access Passport services, and initiated key partnerships with “Hacking into History” to ensure lessons of past segregation become learning and educational opportunities upon which to base future progress, education, and inclusivity,” said General Manager of Environmental Stewardship and Community Prosperity Jay Gibson. “We are exceptionally proud to have Ms. Davis as a valued colleague on our DCo team and know that her strong, facilitative leadership will further every key aim in iGO’s 2021-2022 agenda.”
The International Association of Government Officials is an association that aims to provide professional training and leadership development, through the promotion of networking, technology innovations, educational programs and legislative monitoring on national issues that affect county recorders, election officials, treasurers, and clerks.
iGO is comprised of two legacy organizations, the National Association of County Recorders, Election Officials, and Clerks (NACRC) and the International Association of Clerks, Recorders, Election Officials, and Treasurers (IACREOT). The Durham County Register of Deeds has held memberships in both organizations for many years. These two legacy organizations merged to form the International Association of Government Officials (iGO) in 2016.
