Durham Police Department issued the following announcement on Jul. 30.
Durham police are investigating a hit and run motor vehicle crash involving a motorcycle that happened Friday night on University Drive near S. Duke Street. Investigators of the department’s Traffic and Crash Team (TACT) responded to the scene at approximately 11:49 p.m. on Friday, July 24.
An initial investigation showed that the driver of a Yamaha dirt bike was traveling westbound on University Drive, when the bike’s front end collided with the right side of an unknown vehicle. The vehicle which was traveling eastbound on University Drive and attempting to turn left onto S. Duke Street, fled the scene.
The driver of the bike, who sustained serious injuries that do not appear to be life- threatening, was transported to Duke Hospital.
Speed does not appear to be a factor in the crash. It is unknown if impairment is a factor. The crash remains under investigation.
