Durham County ranked fifth among counties in North Carolina by annual earnings per resident, according to data obtained from the U.S. Census Bureau.

The median income of Durham County residents was $34,059 per year, adjusted for inflation. It had 125,953 households with a population of 311,848.

The county with the highest median resident income in the state was Wake County with $39,798 per year after adjusting for inflation – $5,739 more than Durham County. It had 400,172 households with a population of 1,069,079.

The county with the lowest median resident income in the state was Washington County with $18,139 per year after adjusting for inflation – $15,920 less than Durham County. It had 4,977 households with a population of 11,922.
