FOIA Request to Durham County Election Department Regarding Information on Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.
In our continuous effort to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Durham Reporter have sent a request under the North Carolina Public Records Law, G.S. §132-1., to the Durham County Election Department. The request was made for records of all candidates running in the upcoming election.
The requested information includes each candidate’s first, middle, and last name; the office they are running for; jurisdiction of the office; and party affiliation. We also asked for contact information such as address, phone number, and email address.
As a media organization committed to transparency and accountability in public institutions, we believe access to these public records is essential. This will enable us to provide our readers with up-to-date information about who is running for office in their area and how they can reach out to these candidates.
We are hopeful that our request will be granted without any fees due to our role as a media professional disseminating important information to the public.
