Durham Police Department issued the following announcement on May 24.

Ofc. Harris responded to a crisis call at a downtown location. Upon arrival, she encountered a female locked in a bathroom expressing threats of suicide. Ofc. Harris utilized her CIT Training, was able to calm the situation and persuaded the female out of the bathroom which revealed a knife in her possession. Conversation between the two continued and the female put the knife down. She then voluntarily accompanied Ofc. Harris to seek treatment at a local facility.

Lt. B.S. Holliday spoke highly of Ofc. Harris stating, “Her actions and behaviors that day, embodied a high level service expected from today’s police officers.”

We are proud of Officer Harris along with her hard work and dedication as it exemplifies what it means to be a Durham Police Officer!
