Valerie Foushee, a U.S. Congresswoman representing North Carolina’s 4th district, has expressed her stance on several pressing issues through a series of tweets. Her comments address the proposed cuts to veterans’ benefits, the protection of federal employees, and the legacy of civil rights activist Pauli Murray.
On March 11, 2025, Foushee criticized a Republican-led Continuing Resolution that aims to reduce veterans’ benefits by $23 billion and cut funding for healthcare and housing. She stated, “Republicans are pushing a Continuing Resolution that cuts $23 billion in veterans benefits and slashes funding for health care and housing. I’m voting no. Democrats are willing to work towards a bipartisan resolution, but we will never support cuts to these vital services.”
Later that day, Foushee addressed concerns about federal employment practices under certain leaderships. On March 11, 2025, she tweeted about the impact of indiscriminate firing on government operations: “This indiscriminate firing of federal employees disrupts the critical work of the government across the nation. I’m proud to join my @HouseDemocrats colleagues in introducing the Protect Our Probationary Employees Act to safeguard our civil servants from Trump and Musk’s mass…”
In another tweet posted on March 11, 2025, Foushee highlighted concerns regarding historical narratives being altered by political influences. She emphasized the contributions of Pauli Murray while criticizing actions by the Trump Administration: “Pauli Murray was a trailblazer for civil, women, and LGBTQ+ rights. The Trump Administration is weaponizing the @NatlParkService and censoring webpages, but it cannot change our true history and the extensive contributions of Pauli Murray to our nation.”
