Congresswoman Valerie Foushee, representing North Carolina’s 4th district in the U.S. Congress, has recently shared her views on several pressing issues through a series of tweets. Foushee, who succeeded David Price in 2023, has been vocal about national tragedies, federal assistance freezes, and social security benefits.

On January 30, 2025, Foushee criticized former President Donald Trump for his comments regarding a national tragedy. She stated that “These reckless accusations from Trump are an irresponsible attempt to politicize a national tragedy and place blame on DEI efforts.” She emphasized the need for real answers and solutions from the administration to prevent future incidents.

Later that day, Foushee addressed Trump’s decision to freeze federal assistance. On January 30, she tweeted that “Trump’s freeze on federal assistance will pause transportation projects, infrastructure spending, and air traffic controller hiring nationwide.” She mentioned joining with other Democrats to question the Department of Transportation about implementing these changes and their potential impact on communities.

On January 31, 2025, Foushee commemorated the issuance of the first Social Security check 85 years ago while criticizing Republican efforts to reduce benefits. She expressed her commitment by stating “#OTD 85 years ago, the first-ever #SocialSecurity check was issued.” Foushee vowed to continue fighting alongside House Democrats to protect and enhance these benefits for Americans.
