The City of Durham announced on April 10 that night work will take place at the intersection of Stancell Drive and Downing Creek Parkway as part of the ongoing NC-54 Waterline Replacement Project.
This update is important for residents and commuters in the affected area, as it details upcoming construction activities and potential disruptions to traffic and water service.
According to the city, crews will be flushing and testing a new water main along the service road north of NC-54 (Nelson Highway) from April 13 to April 17. Another crew will begin installing a water main at the intersection of Stancell Drive and Downing Creek Parkway, with nighttime work scheduled for Wednesday, April 15, and Thursday, April 16.
From April 20 to April 24, one crew will start reconnecting water services on Nelson Highway. The city said individual residents will receive advance notice if their water service is expected to be interrupted temporarily. During this same period, another crew will install a new water main along Stancell Drive between Little John Road and Downing Creek Parkway. The eastbound lane on Stancell Drive will be closed during work hours; however, access for residents on Stancell Drive will remain available via the westbound lane.
A temporary lane closure for eastbound traffic on Stancell Drive between Little John Road and Downing Creek Parkway is planned to begin during the week of April 20. More information about this closure can be found by viewing the city’s online resources about lane closures.
The City expressed appreciation for public patience throughout these construction efforts. Further updates about this project are available at https://www.durhamnc.gov/3977/NC-54-Waterline-Replacement-Project.
