The City of Durham announced on April 26 that construction work for the East Durham Waterline Replacement Project will continue through early May. The city provided details about upcoming activities and assured residents that access to local parks, businesses, and residences will be maintained during the construction period.

The update matters to residents and business owners in the affected areas, as it outlines expected disruptions and traffic changes related to essential infrastructure improvements.

From April 27 to May 2, crews will continue installing sanitary sewer lines near Linwood Avenue between Lincoln and Grant streets, close to Grant Park North. Access to Grant Park North will remain open. Waterline installation is set to proceed along Colfax Street between Linwood Avenue and Simmons Street. Road closures with traffic control signs and detours are planned for Colfax Street but access for local businesses and homes will be maintained. Contractors will also clear existing easements and locate utilities throughout the area.

During the week of May 4-9, similar work continues near Linwood Avenue with ongoing sanitary sewer installation. Waterline installation on Colfax Street is scheduled alongside new waterline work beginning in Simmons Street between Colfax Street and Grant Street. Traffic management measures such as lane closures, signage, markings, and detours are planned for both streets while ensuring continued access.

Intermittent lane closures across the project area are expected from late April into early May as utility location efforts continue alongside other installations. The city urges residents to follow posted detour routes for safe travel during these periods.
