The City of Durham announced on March 27 updates to the ongoing American Tobacco District Waterline Replacement Project, outlining scheduled road and lane closures as well as work plans through mid-April.
The project will impact several major streets in the area, with planned construction activities taking place during both weekdays and weekends. The city said it appreciates residents’ patience and encouraged those interested to find more information at its official website.
According to the update, weekend work is planned for Saturday, March 28. Water service connections along Blackwell Street are being coordinated with the American Tobacco Campus. Coordination has also taken place with stakeholders near the Durham Bulls Athletic Park (DBAP), including Teraflex Group LLC, which will complete daytime work before home games by 4 PM. No construction is scheduled from April 3-5 due to a city holiday.
Lane shifts and closures are expected on Jackie Robinson Drive, Roxboro Street, Mangum Street, Blackwell Street, and Pettigrew Street over several weeks. Work hours are set from 7 AM to 7 PM each day when construction occurs. Traffic control signs and markings will be used throughout affected areas to guide drivers safely around work zones. On-street parking in impacted sections will be closed temporarily during active construction periods.
Noise levels above current city ordinances are anticipated during working hours; however, no disruptions to water or sewer services are expected except where specific water service connections require coordination with affected customers. Access to businesses near all work areas will be maintained throughout the project duration.
