The City of Durham announced on April 27 that S. Mangum Street will be closed overnight to allow construction crews to continue work on the American Tobacco District Waterline Replacement project.

The temporary street closure is planned between W. Pettigrew Street and Jackie Robinson Way from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., starting April 27, with a possible extension into April 28 and April 29 if needed.

According to the city, this schedule was coordinated with the Durham Performing Arts Center to ensure patrons can exit from the East Parking Deck during construction hours. One lane will remain open between the parking deck and Jackie Robinson Way.

Officials said that conducting this work at night helps speed up installation of new waterlines while reducing disruptions for daytime commuters. “Thank you for your patience,” city representatives said in their statement.
