Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (Blue Cross NC) has announced that it will allow early prescription refills for its members across the state in response to Hurricane Erin. This policy is effective through September 17, 2025.

The decision comes after Governor Josh Stein declared a state of emergency for North Carolina. The early refill option applies statewide while the emergency declaration remains in effect.

Members can obtain early refills by visiting their pharmacy during this period. The policy does not extend to controlled substances. For questions about prescription drug coverage, customers are encouraged to call the customer service number listed on their Blue Cross NC card or use the secure messaging feature available through their self-service portal at blueconnectnc.com.

Blue Cross NC stated that it will continue to update members via its social media channels. The company also reminds members to seek care at the nearest hospital during emergencies.

“Blue Cross NC always advises members to go to their nearest hospital during an emergency.”
