CenterFest Arts Festival returned to Durham in 2022, drawing 30,000. | durhamarts.org/centerfest
The CenterFest Arts Festival, which wrapped up recently in Durham, continued a strong showing for the longest-running juried arts festival in the state.
It returned this summer after a two-year hiatus because of COVID-19. The 47th edition of the event picked up where it left off, with attendees having the chance to check out an array of ceramics, woodwork, jewelry and paintings. Multiple performance stages offered a variety of musicians, dancers and street performers.
"We [had] over 100 fine artists,” Margaret Demott, director of artist services for CenterFest, said in a WTVD report. “Five stages going gangbusters all the time. Right behind us is the kids area, and wonderful food."
The two-day event over the Sept. 17-18 weekend drew about 30,000 people. It included visual artists from across the country and filled multiple stages with local performers.
The Durham Arts Council, whose tagline is “Creating a Vibrant Community Through the Arts,” sponsors the event along with backing from the community and Durham businesses.
